Gmail Stops Auto Adding Contacts, Fixes Other Important Things

Ever wished if there was a way how to Prevent Gmail From Automatically Adding Contacts or ever wondered how to disable the Auto Save Email Address in Gmail to avoid Contacts Clutter? With Google automatically saving all email IDs that you emailed to your address book, it was not an option until now! But Google has FINALLY given users the option to disable the annoying feature. With this new option you can opt out of contact auto-saving, along with some more little but gratifying fixes.

By default, Gmail automatically saves the details of people you contact via email. That's handy when looking up an old friend. But imagine an user who uses Cragislist a lot. With Gmail s/he can easily end up with 100-200 "sale-xxxxxxxxx@craigslist.org" type email addresses in his/her contact book within no time. And this can be a huge frustration to every time go and clean up your Gmail address book because these one-time email IDs were automatically added.

How to turn OFF Auto-Saving Contacts in Gmail?

Now, with this switch you can turn the auto-save to address book setting off with a single click on a radio button. The setting for turning off Gmail’s auto-save feature is in the General tab of your Gmail Settings. To disable the option, just go to the settings page of Gmail >> Under "General" tab, you will find a box "Create contacts for auto-complete" >> Check "I will add contacts myself" to disable the auto save option.

Apart from this nice little change, here are more features that Gmail has decided to offer:

- Better warnings for typos in email addresses: Gmail tells you specifically which addresses you’ve added have a problem.

- Fewer annoying error pop-ups: You don’t just get a warning when trying to reply to messages in the Trash; you get to move the conversation out and just do it.

- Easier transitions between certain actions: After you’ve created a filter from a message, you now head right back to that message.

- Keyboard shortcut guide for everyone: Whether you’ve enabled keyboard shortcuts or not, hitting “?” shows the shortcut list overlay, and offers a quick box for turning them on.

- Refresh button: It was a link; now it’s a button.
